Update: Government Girls Lower Secondary School
One year ago, Nazeer Foundation adopted the Government Girls Lower Secondary School through the Sindh Province Adopt-a-School Program.
In February 2009, the school had an enrollment of 29 girls in grades 6-8. In April 2009, Nazeer Foundation took the necessary steps to add grade 9 at the school as well.
The enrollment as of February 2010 is 72 girls, more than twice the number from one year ago. Nazeer Foundation has also hired three additional teachers for this school.
Plans are underway to add grade 10 by the end of 2010.
Nazeer Foundation donates to Haiti Victims
Nazeer Foundation made a donation earlier this month of US$500.00 to the American Red Cross.
The money will be directed to the effort of providing much needed support to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti last month.
Kathore Update: English Classes
Nazeer Foundation arranges for a teacher from Karachi to visit Kathore once a week to teach female students the basics of English grammar and speaking skills.
This session is open for students of all classes, mainly comprised of grades 9 through 12.
The classes have been in progress since 2007. As a result, many girls from the Kathore area have now been able to perform better on their national board exams which require them to read and write in English.
The girls have also learned how to become better communicators. Most importantly, they can gain and have a better understanding of the world around them simply because they are finally grasping and understanding the overwhelming international language of communication, English.
Update: Ambulance Service
Nazeer Foundation began an ambulance service for villages in March 2008. The ambulance transports villagers to Karachi-area hospitals as necessary.
Since the beginning of the service, over 400 villagers have relied on the ambulance service to provide care when the alternative would have been no access to hospitals and care.
