Shell Social Investment visits Kathore
LiveWIRE International, a Shell Social Investment program, locally known as Shell Tameer, visited Kathore’s Higher Secondary School on March 1, 2010.
The organization arranged a workshop by the name of “Bright Ideas” to motivate students to pursue entrepreneurship and help them develop ideas on business options. The workshop was a five hour program with 22 participants (both male and female) between the ages of 18-23.
Not only was each participant empowered with greater knowledge and a new perspective with broadened horizons, but they were given certificates of achievement as well. They also benefited immensely due to their networking with Shell Tameer and Tameer’s partner, SMEDA (Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority).

Fashion design comes to Kathore
In continuing with the Foundation’s goal of teaching real-world skills, September 1st saw the beginning of a dress-making class at the KKJ Government Higher Secondary School at Kathore. The three-month program is divided into three phases, each three months long. In the first month, students learn designing, cutting and sewing either gents’ or ladies’ clothing. In the second month the students switch to the other gender’s clothing, and the third month completes training by offering finishing touches and other designing and sewing essentials. The program began with the selection of two groups of ten eager students, comprising of 9th and 10th grade students. Sewing machines, furniture and requisite training materials were purchased to provide the students with necessary equipment and supplies. This program is taught by a professional tailor from the city of Karachi.
This training class helped to inculcate a sense of self-belief in the students towards a more proactive role in society. It allows them to learn a new skill they can turn into a potential business. Whereas earlier such professions were uncommon for the members of this community, the tailoring course has paved the way for further such programs where the communities can benefit on both a personal and social level.

Keys to excellence in Pakistani education
Pakistan boasts many public, private and non-profit schools in addition to religious seminaries and non-traditional schools. Nazeer Foundation realizes that many such institutions may not address all human faculties for optimal human growth and learning. National values, competence, social responsibility, critical thinking, psychomotor skills and artistic contributions are rarely taught in unison at any given institution. Therefore, the need to unify these disparate faculties is great. It is only through amalgamating all subcategories that real progress can be hoped for.
Teachers and instructors are integral to the success of any learning institution. Nazeer Foundation aims to create extremely sophisticated methodologies for learning at every level, such as utilization of Bloom’s Taxonomy, Psychomotor Analysis, and Psyche Development, as well as Ethics and Inspirational Motivation. We at Nazeer Foundation realize that students cannot be expected to perform unless their instruction levels are of required competence. Through its ‘Scholars of Learning’ program, Nazeer Foundation aims to install teachers of an extremely high caliber who can continuously involve themselves in pursuing new tools of learning, all the while remaining steadfast in the principles and values of our nation.
Pakistan Education Overview
Pakistan is home to one of the world’s largest ecnomies. There is little intellectual disagreement that economic growth may become highly limited unless the traditionalism of complacency in education is confronted with a progressive attitude. Bustling with glory, Pakistan’s history is testament to the fact that this region has made major contributions to architecture, the arts, mathematics, agriculture, and now, even technology. It is not possible to sustain the current growth, much less meet the potential of talent, without a clear-cut plan for continued development.
As one of the largest countries in the world with an immense geopolitical standing, Pakistan’s level of education currently is nothing to boast about. It would not be remiss to state that if there is one aspect of society that has not kept pace with potential, it is proper education. In this dearth, many institutions have begun to sprawl with various curricula that satisfy their mission statements. However, the need to bring disparate objectives is great. It is imperative to enhance social responsibility, tolerance, progressiveness, competition, independent thought, and critical thinking, all the while preserving national and religious values. From this vital need, Nazeer Foundation finds its inspiration and enthusiasm to contribute to the growth of society.
